Digital Invasions: from Point Clouds to Historical Building Object Modeling (h-bom) of a Unesco Whl Site

چکیده
The paper here presented shows the outcomes of a research/didactic activity carried out within a workshop titled “Digital Invasions. From point cloud to Heritage Building Information Modeling” held at Politecnico di Torino (29 September – 5 October 2016). The term digital invasions refers to an Italian bottom up project born in the 2013 with the aim of promoting innovative digital ways for the enhancement of Cultural Heritage by the co-creation of cultural contents and its sharing through social media platforms. At this regard, we have worked with students of Architectural Master of Science degree, training them with a multidisciplinary teaching team (Architectural Representation, History of Architecture, Restoration, Digital Communication and Geomatics). The aim was also to test if our students could be involved in a sort of niche crowdsourcing for the creation of a library of H-BOMS (HistoricalBuilding Object Modeling) of architectural elements. * Corresponding author

Automated Modeling of Surface Detail from Point Clouds of Historical Objects
Terrestrial Laser Scanners are well suited for the acquisition of data for subsequent geometric modeling. Modern phase shift laser scanners allow the measuring of point clouds with very high point densities. The redundancy in the data can be used to reduce measurement error, leading to a point cloud with high precision and optimized point spacing. In combination with image data, very detailed m...

In the last years the image-based pipeline for 3D reconstruction purposes has received large interest leading to fully automated methodologies able to process large image datasets and deliver 3D products with a level of detail and precision variable according to the applications. Different open issues still exist, in particular when dealing with the 3D surveying and modeling of large and comple...

Historical Building Information Modeling (H-BIM) has been widely documented in literature and is becoming more popular with government bodies, who are increasingly choosing to make its use mandatory in public procurements and contracts. Although the system seems to be one of the best approaches for managing data and driving the decision-making process, several difficulties arise due to the amou...

This study proposes a new non-contact approach allows detecting, measuring and tracking the change of cracks in the historical structure using photogrammetric techniques and computer methods. The proposed procedure used an accurate generation of true orthophoto of the studied structure using precise 3D surface representations derived from laser scanning and several digital images that entirely ...
متن کامل[Article] MODELING THE DECAY IN AN HBIM STARTING FROM 3D POINT CLOUDS. A FOLLOWED APPROACH FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE KNOWLEDGE
The recent trends in architectural data management imply the scientific and professional collaborations of several disciplines involved in the design, restoration and maintenance. It seems an achieved concept that, in the next future, all the information connected to new interventions or conservation activities on historical buildings will be managed by using a BIM platform. Nowadays the actual...
